Update on Sariki Village August 2015

AAV Project
 Update on Sariki Village
August 2015

For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed--a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: "The righteous will live by faith."
Romans 1:17
Introduction
The word of God has the power to Transform lives. The inhabitants of Sariki and adjacent villages would vouch for this statement as the transformation that has engulfed this region has become palpable. People witness transformation in the areas of their spiritual life, children’s education, health care, socio-economic status and more. The local church plays a vital part in implementing the Adopt-A-Village Program’s activities across the region. Once these activities become self-sustainable, the church then becomes the focal point of all spiritual and developmental progress in the region.

Highlight
“We used to have an old school building, but had no teacher, our children used the  place for playing games, but now our children receive education in that same place ” this is a statement of a resident from Kumbimeda village which is about 2 miles away from Sariki Village. This village is difficult to access as a river runs straight in the middle of the main road and the village. In the rainy seasons this place becomes inaccessible and all communication is lost between them and the outside world.

A new Day Care Center has been initiated since the month of June 2015, Buoyant parents send their children with hopes of achieving what they haven’t, a proper education. 90% of the adult residents of this village are illiterate and addicted to alcohol. Educating these young ones can bring great change to this village.

Evening Study Center
The school dropout rate in rural areas is more than 25% because of poor teaching staff in Government public schools, under skilled teachers and lack of infrastructure. In most rural areas a large percentage of parents are uneducated. This makes it difficult for these parents to comprehend the importance of education and lack the knowledge of guiding their children through their academic progress.

In order to decrease the school dropout rate and to improve the educational standards of school going children, An evening study center has been opened at Sariki village. 35 students from Sariki and another 30 students from Sompagam village attend these classes. Trained teachers use new teaching methodology to assist these children to enhance their learning capacity and to perform better in their academics.

Special Programmes
Visit from Sponsoring Church
A team from our sponsoring church, the New Xenos Christian Fellowship Church visited Sariki village on the 13th of August 2015. The team shared the word of God amongst 30 pastors. In the afternoon, the team had a prayer walk around Sariki village and prayed for the salvation of the community. The team also interacted with believers, women transformation group members and students in skill training units. Many villagers shared their testimonies of how their lives have been transformed through the AAV program and the Children received various gifts. These visits by a sponsoring church team gives a lot of encouragement to the Pastor, believers, villagers and staff.

Update on other Programme
Evangelism Church Planting
Over the past months, The Gospel has reached 140 people through personal evangelism and 190 people through cottage prayers. There are 30 believers who attend the Sunday service. Women and youth prayer groups play a vital role in proclaiming the gospel in these areas.
Mr. Mellaka Annayya, a 50 year old man belongs to Sompagam village. He used to often create problems against the Pastor and other Christians in the area. His alcohol addiction problems made him repressible to people around him Though he detested Pastor Suvartha Rao, the Pastor still made efforts to go to him with the Gospel. After a few months, Mellake Annayya showed receptiveness to Gospel and has now calmed down significantly. Let us pray for his salvation.

Children Gospel Club:
20 children receive spiritual nurture and are growing in faith. They learn Bible stories, songs, dances and memorise Bible verses. The Lord has given us an opportunity to disciple these children to grow in their faith so they can share their testimonies to their families and community.

Women Transformation Group
In order to bring a sustainable development amongst women, women transformation groups are formed. The WTG’s encourage women to become entrepreneurs and train them in various income generation schemes.

The role of WTG members in the local community is essential. From creating awareness, to empowering women, the WTGs reach out to transform the community. Currently there are 4 WTGs formed in Sariki, D. Thadivalasa and Sompagam villages. Each group has 10 members. They are being trained in Leadership skills, alternative income generation, micro business concepts, thrift and savings.

Skill training.

There are 12 women undergoing skill training. In this Skill Training Center, women are being trained in tailoring, making handicrafts and household articles. They are also assisted to market their products locally. These skills will help these women to come out of poverty. As these women’s lives change, their children’s future will also change. Skill training ensures better living conditions for these women. The first batch of 12 students have successfully completed 6 months training course and the second batch of 10 students has commenced. 2 students have accepted Jesus Christ as their personal Savior and have started to come to church regularly.

According to a statement from her mother, “My husband works as a daily wages worker and hardly gets a job for 10 days in a month. We never get good food or clothing. I have sent my daughter to a Government school but she shows no sign’s of improvement in her studies. IGL interns visit Sariki!

Hannah, Laura and Paul, three American interns for IGL, along with Rebecca Stanley of India Gospel League, traveled to the village of Sariki in Andhra Pradesh.  The village people, pastor and family warmly welcomed them. The day began with a lively worship service singing praises to the Lord. The church quickly filled with believers and non-believers. The church currently has 60 believers. Corporate prayer and a short testimony from the pastor followed the worship service. Then, Rebecca Stanley introduced the adopt-a-village program to the church and announced that this program would officially be taking place in their village. The people were very thankful and excited for future growth and support. She encouraged them to use this opportunity to go and reach out to their village themselves, not to rely on others to bring about change. She encouraged the believers to be a light in their village, and through them, the Lord will be able to save many. She also gave an inspiring message on the great commission and then introduced the American team: Hannah, Laura and Paul from Ohio.  Their church, NeoXenos, began sponsoring Sariki about two months ago. The villagers and pastor were very pleased to meet them. They passed out Telugu Bibles to new believers of the church. The interns were honored to finally meet people of Sariki and were humbled by their hospitality. The program ended with more corporate prayer and worship.
